Frank Miller Signature on my Daredevil Comic plus Video of my Daredevil Comic Collection
Ok, so I recently did this video of my Daredevil comics collection.
In the collection I show the Limited series Frank Miller Daredevil comics and I have #2 signed.
Below is the story on how that came about.
So I was at the San Diego Comic Con (maybe 2005 or 2006 somewhere around that time) and heard that Frank Miller would be signing. My friend and I were able to get in line for signatures. The line was for signatures from Frank Miller and Neil Gaiman. I brought the 5 Frank Miller Daredevil comics to get signed. We were pretty far back in line and we were hoping that we would make it up there before they stopped signing. After about an hour and a half they decided to split the line into two lines, one side for Frank Miller and one side for Neil Gaiman because Neil was about to leave. A few minutes later, the line guard came around and said that the amount of items for Frank Miller to sign would now be cut back from 10 to 5, and that was fine with me, I only had 5 items to sign anyway. However, that usually means he will be leaving soon. About 10 or so minutes after that we were starting to get close maybe about 30 people ahead of us. That's when Neil Gaiman left and then the line guard came around again and said the items to sign are now limited to 3. So I put #4 and #5 back in my bag and had 1,2, and 3 ready to go along with my own Silver Sharpie. I think this was the first year that the silver Sharpie was available and it would look awesome with the covers. About 15 min go by and Frank Miller stands up and moves away from the table and comes up to the front of the line queue. That means he could leave any minute and we are now about 5 people back. Suddenly from across the room some one is calling his name and walking toward him with a phone. Frank continues to sign and says to the guy something like "Get outta here, I don't want to talk to him!!" The guy is persistent and continues to try to get Frank to take the phone, he signs some more, looks at the guy and says something like "Fine! Give it to me!!? At this point there is one person in front of my friend and I'm 3rd in line. Frank is pissed and is yelling at whoever is on the phone and finally ends his conversation and basically slams the phone into the guys chest and yells something along the lines of "Don't ever come out here with a call like that when i'm signing!!!" He grabs the next guys comics, signs them quickly and says harshly "Next!" That's my friend. Frank calms down a little starts talking to my friend and he signs his books. Sweet, I'm next!! But no that guy is coming back again. He and Frank start arguing again and he is trying to hand him the phone again. I'm thinking "Get Outta Here, he doesn't want to talk to him!!!" I'm standing there holding out my 3 comics fanned out in one hand and my Silver Sharpie in the other. Frank finally gets him to leave, but is really pissed off. He turns to me grabs the center comic (#2) and signs it with the Black Sharpie that he has in his hand, turns and starts to walk away in a steam and gruffly says "That's It! I'm Done!" My friend looks at me and the comic and starts to chuckle and says "At least you got one signed" The rest of the people in line start calling out across the room to the guy who brought Frank the phone and calling him names and stuff.
Well, that's how I got the Frank Miller, Daredevil, Limited Series, #2 signed. Pretty Crazy right?
Over 2 hours in line and I got #2 signed with the wrong pen, but like my friend said, at least I got one signed. Plus I've got this story to tell too.
